This year has taught me something. Despite my best efforts to be a grownup, there are other adults out there acting like kindergarteners. I’m trying really hard not to lose my patience with people. If a man/woman-child was in the vicinity, they were finding me. I hate to say it, but it’s mostly people my age (late ’30s) causing all the bullshit drama. I actually had a grown adult man block me from Periscope (who still uses that?) and Facebook because I made a comment that live broadcasting people’s children at the pool was… I don’t know… creepy. It wasn’t “You’re a fucking pervert! LOLZ.” It was more, “Hey, there’s not a good idea.” He couldn’t even talk to me directly, but did a dirty delete and blasted me on Twitter. Oh, and this isn’t some Joe Schmoe either. He claims to work on the field of domestic terrorism for the federal government, yet he couldn’t understand why Walt Disney World security looks down at randomly filming people on the property. Things that make you go HMMM. Maybe I’ll be in his book because, ya know, he’s writing one about his trip.
This is starting to be the norm with people lately. No one can handle anything like an adult anymore. Did someone make an annoying comment? Ignore it? No, let’s flame them on Facebook or Twitter. I’m not even going to get into the political aspect with people either. Most of them have lost their fucking minds. What happened to listening to other points of views and having a friendly debate? You can’t even do that anymore. I have a few Facebook “friends” that block people because they don’t agree with their political leanings. It’s unbelievable! We have really become a nation of crybabies. You need to toughen up to survive in this world. If everything offends you, then just stay inside.
It seems like the more social media “connects” us, the more it tears us apart. People aren’t afraid to be assholes because there is no accountability. You can call someone a douchebag, bitch, fat, and ugly. And it doesn’t matter. You’ll get a cheering section of other internet trolls too. This type of behavior is just childish. Just because you can be an asshole, it doesn’t mean you should. We need to start acting like adults in the real world and the online one too.
