Sometimes I Just Shake My Head

So when my client load is light, I’ll pick up work on the content mills. It’s quick and easy money for the most part. I signed up for Crowd Content and it has been a complete nightmare.
All you had to do was write a product description for a bunch of unfinished wooden crap from Michael’s (I’ve totally lost respect for them and Best Buy for using this scam site). I get the bitch editor who holds up my work with this little gem.

I take responsibility for the measurements even though the rewrite was just adding “0.2” to the dimensions. But this gem – “you’re missing an “it” between attach and to.” attach… IT… to 🤦🏼‍♀️ Usually, the editors will add that word, this one sent my stuff back for everything. If that wasn’t bad enough, I get an email from the project manager because NOW this editor has a problem with my work. But instead of messaging me about my pieces, she squeals to the higher ups.

Seriously? Okay, whatever. Needless to say, I made my edits and cashed out my accounts. Those quick “two-minute” product descriptions turned into a three-day nightmare. You know it’s a horrible place when they make you use a fake name to author any pieces. So I can say, go fuck yourself Bea,* and not even feel bad because that’s not even her real name.

Oh, by the way Bea, the client loved my product descriptions. So spin on that! It’s too bad I won’t write for this company when they play games with your work. It won’t matter to them because they’ll find any sucker to write content for cheap, cheap rates.

Most mills are horrendous. They prey on writers who want to make a quick buck. No one should write for 0.02 a word. I knew better, so shame on me.
